City of New York Assistant Transportation Specialist in New York, New York

Job Description

The New York City Department of Transportation Bureau of Permit Management and Construction Control – Plan Examination Unit (PEU) seeks to hire an Assistant Transportation Specialist. PEU is part of the Permit Management office and is responsible for reviewing all land contour development plans, as well as bioswale and storm water greenstreets in relation to the city’s ROW, and building vaut locations. PEU also provides review of all vault applications and enables utilities to bring in services to new buildings. The selected candidate will assist the PEU Director on routine inspection of land contour projects, field inspection of approved construction plans, help the review of SCARA (Sidewalk, Curb, and Roadway Applications) to ensure submitted documents are accurate and complete; Coordinate with various DOT units, city agencies, elected officials; consultant companies and general public via phone, email and at meetings. Conduct community outreach for capital projects on roadway and sidewalk reconstruction in need of coordination from property owners; visit new building and other sites to verify compliance of construction plans on vaults, distinctive sidewalks, ADA elements and roadway/sidewalk geometry; Researches FOIL requests as required and perform other related duties

IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATES MUST BE CITY EMPLOYEES SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF ASSISTANT TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55 a PROGRAM.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, planning or mathematics or one of the physical sciences; or

  2. High school diploma or its educational equivalent and 4 years of full-time experience performing technical work on traffic programs and citywide transportation studies; or

  3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
